Energy efficiency and the race to having Net Zero Carbon Emissions has been trending over the past 6 months.
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) during November 2021 really brought into sharp focus the challenges facing the world over Climate Change and Carbon Emissions.
The crucial dates for Carbon Emissions are 2030 and 2050.
The Climate Financial Risk Forum (CFRF) during October 2021 produced their 2021 Climate Data and Metrics, “an increasing number of financial institutions have committed to reducing the carbon emissions arising from their lending or investing to net zero by 2050 or earlier.”
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) during October 2021 produced their Climate Change Adaptation Report “net zero targets help firms and listed companies measure their progress towards meeting their commitments…by committing a firm or listed company to reducing its carbon intensity by given amount by 2030. The net zero alliances require signatories to set targets and some also produce target-setting protocols.”
Financial Regulations: What you need to know about the FCA suggests that, “ignoring the FCA and financial regulations is like a ship’s captain ignoring the weather – foolhardy. Take it for granted and your business will run aground.”
The advice recommends that in order to remain compliant firms should:
- Educate your team.
- Work with an IT consultant.
- Hire a compliance officer.
The question is, how do you demonstrate as a financial firm that you are compliant with your Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 targets?
